Provenance: Rago, Early 20th Century Design, 4 February 2011, Lot 40 | Private Collection Catalog Note: The present lot is a prime example of Rookwood’s Dull Finish glaze. Typically identifiable by the notation ‘S’ for Smear glaze to the underside, this glaze is applied to a vase inside the sagger in which the vase is to be fired. During firing, the glaze evaporates and collects on said vase. Smear glaze is quite thin, allowing for every nuance of the artist's intent for distinctive artistic expression. This work will ship from Chicago, Illinois.
