Previous to that, from 1979-80 she attended Penland School of Crafts. Before that Van Cline earned a BFA from Texas Women's University which she was at from 1976-77. She also took classes at North Texas State University, Denton, TX from 1972-76. Mary Van Cline has received many awards throughout her impress career. Some of them are the 1998 Grand Prize, Glass Kanazawa 98, Kanazawa, Japan; 1991 Washington State Arts Commission, Visual Arts Fellow; 1989 Creative Glass Center of America, Masterwork Artist; 1987 Japan-US Friendship Commission/NEA Cultural Exchange Award (six months residency in Japan); 1987 K. Fujita Prize, Glasmuseum, Ebeltoft, Denmark, Inaugural Exhibit; 1986 Pilchuck Glass School, Scholarship; 1985 New York State Arts Council/New York Experimental Glass Workshop – Artist in Residence; 1984 Massachusetts Arts and Humanities, Fellowship; 1983 Creative Glass Center, Wheaton-Inaugural Fellow; 1982 Capitol Glass Invitational, Inaugural Award; 1979 Penland School of Crafts, Scholarship and the 1978 City of Dallas, Artist in Residence.         Mary van Cline (American, b. 1954) Glass Sculpture from the "Greek Vase" Series, USA, 1990 Cast glass, laminated photosensitive glass, sand-cast glass Signed and dated: "Mary van Cline '90" (H: 10 1/8, W: 10 1/8, D: 2 1/8 in.) Provenance Judy Youens Gallery, Houston, Texas Property from a Private Collection, Washington, D.C. Condition report: Very good overall. Minor surface imperfections, consistent with manufacture. One post-production scallop-shaped chip to corner top edge of the "bowl" measuring approximately 1/4 in. x 1/8 in. The upper edge of the sculpture with several very small grinding flea bites, occurring in the polishing/manufacture of the sculpture. The reverse with some shallow surface scratches.

Provenance Judy Youens Gallery, Houston, Texas Property from a Private Collection, Washington, D.C. Condition report: Very good overall with no breaks or repairs noted. No major surface scratches or chips noted. One 1/8 in. dia. raised imperfection, slighlty ground down, to front of sculpture near base of the "bowl" measuring approx 1/8" in. dia. (occured in the making of); various air bubbles throughout consistent with technique and artist intent.
