Lucas van de Kaey (Dutch, c.1645-1672) Portrait of a lady, half length, in black with a white cap and collar, holding a Bible inscribed with a "B" signed lower left "Aetatis 35 / Lucas Van de Kaey / Fecit 1666" oil on canvas, together with a 19th Century frame which at some point belonged to the portrait h:79 w:69 cm Provenance: Christie, Manson and Woods, London, 28 March 1924, Lot 108 (as Lucas van der Baey) - bought by "Greenstreet" for 12 guineas; From a Kent country house. This is a rare portrait by the Dutch portrait painter Lucas van de Kaey. Tantalisingly we do not know the name of the sitter but perhaps the "B" on the Bible held by the sitter reflects her name.
