The Endless Summer is a ground-breaking surf film, made by filmmaker and narrator Bruce Brown. It follows two surfers on a surfing trip around the world. When the film was first released it inspired many surfers to go abroad, leading to the emergence of surf and travel culture. This special size poster was used to advertise the film when it was showing in small venues prior to its national release.

This is an extremely rare silk screen test print for the surfing film Endless Summer by artist John Van Hamersveld. When Van Hamersveld created this poster he was an art student, and a friend of Bob Bagley, a business partner of Bruce Brown, who wrote and directed the film. Brown wanted a poster to encapsulate the mood of an international surfing trip. Van Hamersveld used an existing photograph and reversed it, and then changed the colours to those florescent colours fashionable at the time. A series of test prints were done to decide the colour balance between the three colours (red, orange and yellow). Smaller posters were produced for use in surf shops and schools. The larger posters were not produced until the film's cinematic release in 1966. This silk screen poster was one of the first test prints, of which very few were printed.
