There is a horizontal fold running along the top edge of the left half. Light foxing starting to emerge. The blue tones are possibly a little faded. Not viewed out of glazed frame.

Light rubbing/ abrasions and thinning to the paint to the upper edge and upper left edge. A couple of very light superficial scratches by the horse and cart in the lower left corner. WINTERLANDSCHAFT MIT STADTANSICHT UND ZUGEFRORENEM FLUSS Öl auf Holz. 34,2 x 48,5 cm. Links unten signiert „B. J. van Hove“. In dekorativem schwarzen Rahmen. Auf einem zugefrorenen Fluss eine Familie mit Schlitten und im Hintergrund mehrere Schlittschuhläufer. Am linken Ufer die Ansicht eines Stadtviertels mit schlossartigem Gebäude, zu dem man durch ein steinernes Tor gelangt. Am Ufer zudem ein festgefrorenes Boot, auf dem eine Frau gerade ihre farbenfrohe Wäsche an einer Leine aufgehängt hat. Rechts des Flusses eine hohe prachtvolle Kathedrale und zahlreiche kleine Staffagefiguren am Ufer. Stimmungsvolle romantische Ansicht unter hohem, meist grauen Wolkenhimmel, die Kälte eines Wintertags vermittelnd. Der Künstler war Schüler des Haager Dekorationsmalers J.H.A.A. Breckenheijmer und zu seiner Zeit schon ein wichtiger Maler von romantischen Stadtansichten, in denen Fantasie eine große Rolle spielte. Bart van Hove wurde in Den Haag geboren, wo er von seinem Vater und dem Dekormaler Johannes H.A.A. Breckenheijmer (1722–1856) Unterricht erhielt. Danach besuchte er die Akademie für bildende Künste in Den Haag. Er gilt als einflussreiche Persönlichkeit in der niederländischen Romantik. Zu seinen vielen Schülern zählen Johannes Bosboom (1817–1891), Charles Leickert (1816–1907), Salomon Leonardus. Verveer (1813–1876) sowie sein Sohn Hubertus van Hove (1814–1865). Er spezialisierte sich auf verträumte Stadtansichten, in denen topografische Fakten mit Fantasie gemischt sind. Er war Mitbegründer der Künstlervereinigung Pulchri in den Haag, die Stadt, die er liebte und wo er 1880 starb (zitiert aus: Ausst.-Kat. Bart van Hove wurde in Den Haag geboren, wo er von seinem Vater und dem Dekormaler Johannes H.A.A. Breckenheijmer (1722–1856) Unterricht erhielt. Danach besuchte er die Akademie für bildende Künste in Den Haag. Er gilt als einflussreiche Persönlichkeit in der niederländischen Romantik. Zu seinen vielen Schülern zählen Johannes Bosboom (1817–1891), Charles Leickert (1816–1907), Salomon Leonardus. Verveer (1813–1876) sowie sein Sohn Hubertus van Hove (1814–1865). Er spezialisierte sich auf verträumte Stadtansichten, in denen topografische Fakten mit Fantasie gemischt sind. Er war Mitbegründer der Künstlervereinigung Pulchri in den Haag, die Stadt, die er liebte und wo er 1880 starb (zitiert aus: Ausst.-Kat. Ein romantischer Blick – Die Sammlung Rademakers, M-Museum Leuven, Gemeentemuseum, Den Haag, B. C. Koekkoek-Haus, Kleve, Brüssel 2011, S. 137).
