      PHILIP VAN KOUWENBERGH DUTCH FLORAL STILL LIFE: VAN KOUWENBERGH, Philip, (Dutch, 1671-1729): Still life of flower and fruit on marble ledge with bird and lizard, Oil/Canvas, monogrammed lower center, 21 «? x 18?, carved gilt wood foliate motif frame 30? x 26 «?. Purchased at Sotheby?s New York, Lot 140, October, 1997. Painting was previously misidentified as a work from Pieter Hardine and sold as such at auction, with a later addendum from Sotheby?s, correctly identified by Fred Meijer of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Docmentatie (RKD, Netherlands Institute for Art History). Copy of receipt and addendum provided. Condition: Craquelure, relined, minor abrasions.

Inscribed lower right: Jan Van Huysum. 68..5 x 64 cm. Provenance: - Schloss Ahlden, auction, 24.-25.11.1995, Lot 1486 (as Philip van Kouwenbergh). - European private collection. Dr. Fred G. Meijer, who examined the painting in the original in 1995 on the occasion of an auction, and identified it as a work by Philip van Kouwenbergh, has repeated his confirmation of the authenticity of this work in writing. The signature of J. van Huysum was added later and based on parts of the original monogram PHK. --------------- KOUWENBERGH, PHILIP VAN (1671 Amsterdam 1729) Blumenstillleben mit Rosen, Pfingstrosen, Malven, Anemonen, Tulpen, Trauben und Pfirsichen. Öl auf Leinwand. Unten rechts bezeichnet: Jan Van Huysum. 68,5 x 64 cm. Provenienz: - Auktion Schloss Ahlden, 24.-25.11.1995, Los 1486 (als Philip van Kouwenbergh). - Europäische Privatsammlung. Dr. Fred G. Meijer, der das Gemälde bereits 1995 anlässlich der Auktion im Original untersuchte und als ein Werk von Philip van Kouwenbergh identifizierte, bestätigt erneut die Autorschaft in einer schriftlichen Korrespondenz. Die Signatur J. van Huysum wurde nachträglich angefügt und basiert auf Teilen des ursprünglichen Monogramms PHK.

NOTE The attribution of this still life to Philips van Kouwenbergh was first proposed by Fred G.
