This photograph of two endangered Japanese cranes was taken in Hokkaido, Japan. The elegance and grace of these birds in a snow-covered landscape is breathtaking. Marsel van Oosten began his career in advertising and received numerous awards as an art director including two gold Lions at the prestigious ‘International Advertising Festival’ in Cannes. Five years later, he swapped his established life for nature photography to great success. Amongst his numerous awards, he has won the overall title of ‘International Nature Photographer of the Year’ in the ‘International Photography Awards’ twice in a row, first prize in the ‘European Wildlife Photographer of the Year’, first prize in ‘Nature's Best International Photography Awards’, ‘Wildlife Photographer of the Year People's Choice’ and in 2015 he was the grand title winner at the ‘Travel Photographer of the Year’ awards. With a broad portfolio to his name, van Oosten's composition, lighting, colour and perspective is world class. Every image is unique and captivating in its own right. Having exhibited overseas at the prestigious ‘Farmani Gallery’ amongst many others and featured in museums such as the ‘Smithsonian Museum of Natural History’, Washington, D. C., he is also a regular contributor to ‘National Geographic’ magazine. 'Tiger Canyons' mission statement is to create free ranging, self-sustaining populations of tigers in the hands of private enterprise in and out of the Asian continent. Established by John Varty in the Karoo in response to dwindling wild tiger numbers in India, the 'Tigress Julie Foundation' aims to ensure the survival of the species and fund this project. It is named after the founding tigress Julie who was born in zoo captivity and died a free breading and hunting tigress at 'Tiger Canyons' in 2013.
