HENRY VAN WOLF BUFFALO AWARD STATUE

        Est: $400 - $600

Awarded by the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel to Chef G. Conte Christmas 1958. 8" long, 5 3/4" tall. Henry Van Wolf (1898 - 1982) was active/lived in California / Germany. Henry Van Wolf is known for Sculptor-Indian figure, portrait. Henry Van Wolf was born in Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany and settled in Van Nuys, California. He studied at the Munich Art School with Ferdinand von Miller. In California, he became a prominent sculptor who also did WPA commission work. Mr. Van Wolf was the President of the San Fernando Valley Professional Artist's Guild in 1953. He resided in North Hollywood for a number of years where he created the following sculptures: "Happy Family", Olivia De Havilland". "Fighting Mountain Lions", and "Will Rogers." He worked out of a large home which he used as his studio and lived in a small house next to the large home studio. His sculpting ranged from small to over 60 feet high. I saw a Bear on a ball that was that big. I believe the street he lived on was Lankershim, but I am not sure of that. He was commission by the City of Tarzana in the 60's to do a large sculpture at the entrance to Tarzana on Lindley and Ventura Blvd. However, this was canceled, I guess due to lack of funds.
