      Vautier, André 1861 Paris

      Est: €2,200 -

Summerly riverlandscape at sunset. Signed bottom right: A. Vautier. Oil on canvas. 29,5 x 40,5cm. Framed. Overleaf side: On the canvas denoted with stencil: 6 P.H. as well as old stamps on the stretcher. The Barbizon student Vautier worked with Henry-Joseph Harpignies for several years, one of the founders of Pleinairism. From 1885 onward he exhibited regularly in the Salon des Artists, in Paris. Similar to other representatives of the school of barbizon, the unique interpretation of light can be recognised in his landscapes. The spaciality is not created by academic shading, but by powerfully set surficial highlighting. The hinted red view into the sky gives the pictiorial completion.
