        Property of a Private Collector, Hilton Head Island, SC Description: Nicolas Visscher (Dutch, c. 1550-c. 1612), Double Hemisphere Map of the World, Orbis Terrarum Nova et Accuratissima Tabula, Hand Colored Engraving, c. 1658, double hemisphere map, captioned along top edge 'Orbis Terrarum Nova et Accuratissma, auctore Nicolao Visscher' and printed 'N. P. Berchem invent', with surrounding mythological scenes, letter stamp in top right corner, matted and framed. Frame size: 26 3/4 in. x 30 in. Measurements: Height: by sight 19 in. x Width: 22 1/2 in. Condition: Overall good condition, toning, foxing, central vertical crease, tear from center of bottom edge, not viewed out of frame.

        Acquaforte. mm 100/103x155/158. Foglio: 172x240. Hollstein, 292 e sgg. Onuf, 2011,3.1. Con il monogramma dell'artista e la data "1612" alla tavola di frontespizio. Piccolo album rilegato contenente frontespizio e 24 incisioni (mancante la numero 25), con il numero in basso a destra, da una serie completa in 26 tavole selezionate e tratte dai 44 Piccoli paesaggi, attribuiti all'omonimo Maestro, e pubblicati da Hieronymus Cock ad Anversa nel 1559 e di nuovo nel 1561. Sul frontespizio Visscher attribuisce i disegni preparatori a Pieter Bruegel il Vecchio, anche se nelle edizioni di Cock non veniva mai menzionato l'inventore dei soggetti; è pertanto quasi certo che l'attribuzione di Visscher a Bruegel fosse solo un espediente commerciale per usufruire del nome del più famoso artista fiammingo della precedente generazione. Splendide impressioni in tiratura omogenea, su carta vergellata sottile con filigrana "fiore di giglio entro mandorla su lettere MV e sormontato da corona" visibile su gran parte dei fogli. Legatura in carta vergellata pesante con cucitura al lato sinistro. Al piatto anteriore iscrizione a penna e inchiostro bruno in antica grafia "Visscher Claus/n°26 paesaggi". Bibliografia: A. Rare complete set of seasons. The plates, which bear the titles Ver, Aestas, autumnus and Hyems, drawn and engraved by Jan Van de Velde the Younger were published by Nicolas Visscher in 1617. Jan Van de Velde, from 1593 to 1641, operates in Haarlem in the early ' 600 and one of the greatest painters and printmakers of the time.
