Christian Vogt (Swiss, b. 1946). "Petra" gelatin silver print, edition 5 of 7, 1979. A striking photograph of a woman - presumably "Petra" - in the nude save a pair of stiletto heels, standing in profile on a high pedestal, arching her back, and raising her arms above her head in a dramatic pose. Vogt belonged to a group of Swiss photographers who rejected Sachfotographie (or "non-subjective photography") for its journalistic or detached approach after 1968. He is known for subjective interpretations of time and space, a penchant for capturing various surfaces and textures, as well as creating "sensuous-though-stark" images of the human body like this example. Size of image: 6.125" L x 4.125" W (15.6 cm x 10.5 cm) Size of sheet: 10" L x 8.1" W (25.4 cm x 20.6 cm) Artist's Statement: "Since the late 1960s Christian Vogt has produced a photographic oeuvre impressive for its creative inventiveness and its unexpected twists. He is a master of the art of photographic haikus, and a virtuoso of associative story telling with pictures. Jedes Accessoire dürfe mitgebracht und verwendet werden; einziger durchgehender Bestandteil meines Konzepts sei jedoch eine hölzerne Kiste: diese müsse auf jeder Aufnahme irgendwie mit im Bild sein."
