Our thanks to Prof. Mauro Lucco who has confirmed the authenticity of this work after examining the original. --------------- GIOVANNI BATTISTA VOLPONI (tätig in Pistoia, frühes 16. Jh.) Madonna mit Jesuskind und Heiligem Franziskus und Bernhardin von Siena. Öl auf Holz. 125 x 124 cm. Provenienz: Europäische Privatsammlung. Das vorliegende Werk stammt von Giovanni Battista Volponi, genannt lo Scalabrino, wie Professor Mauro Lucco bestätigt. Lo Scalabrino war Schüler des Fra' Paolino da Pistoia (1488 – 1547), seinerseits Schüler des Fra' Bartolomeo (1472 – 1517). Des Weiteren arbeitete Scalabrino mit Gerino da Pistoia (1480 – 1529), weshalb seine Arbeiten auch den Einfluss romagnolischer Künstler, wie etwa den von Gasparo Sacchi da Imola (tätig um 1517 – 1536) aufweisen. Weitere Arbeiten des Künstlers befinden sich beispielweise im Museo Civico in Pistoia (Fototeca Zeri, Nr. 37759), im Palazzo Arcivescovile in Viterbo (Fototeca Zeri, Nr. 37763) und der Pinakothek in Parma (Inv. Nr. 158, Kat. Nr. 233). Prof. Mauro Lucco bestätigt die Eigenhändigkeit dieses Gemäldes nach Untersuchung des Originals, wofür wir ihm danken.
