      Karl Arthur von Rydingsvard (Swedish/American 1863-1941) Hand-Carved Footstool c1900s. Trained in Sweden in the slojd (handicraft). Karl later went on to teach the principles of the Slojd Movement to hundreds of pupils in America. He had studios in Manhattan and Brunswick, Maine. This footstool cam from an estate in Maine. Unsigned. Excellent original finish. 15"w x 9.5"d x 4.75"h. Spend $7500 or more at our two day auction and all of your SHIPPING IS FREE within the lower 48 states.       Karl von Rydingsvard (1863-1941) picture frame New York, NY and Boston, MA carved oak carved signature set with a Douglas Volk (American 1856-1935) portrait of Frances Lyle oak frame: 19'h x 15'w; image: 11'h x 9'w Provenance: From 'Hewnoaks,' the estate of Jessie Volk, 2006 Catalogue Note: 'Hewnoaks' was an Arts & Crafts colony built at Kezar Lake, ME. Douglas Volk taught at Cooper Union, Art Students League, and the National Academy, and was a founder of the Minneapolis School of Fine Art. He participated in the 1893 Chicago Columbian Exposition. He met von Rydingsvärd at Felix Adler's Society for Ethical Culture. Catalogue note: Von Rydingsvärd worked for Herter Brothers and later founded the Arts & Crafts School in Boston. He taught at his studios in New York and Maine, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the Institute of Arts and Sciences, Manchester, NH.
