His early expressionist work is internationally significant. From 1912 to 1913 he studied at the private painting school Knirr and Sailer in Munich. During this time he met the graphic artist Jakob Steinhardt in Berlin and became acquainted with the Sturm Gallery and probably the Blaue Reiter. In 1913 -1914 he attended the Académie Colarossi in Paris, where he became friends with Amedeo Modigliani and met several painters in the Bateau-Lavoir. His works from this period include expressionist-cubist drawings, etchings, and woodcuts. He finished his studies with Heinrich Altherr in Stuttgart. He became a member of the Sturm in Berlin and participated in expressionist magazines, ("Die Bücherkiste", "Das Kunstblatt", "Der Weg", "Die Aktion", "Der Sturm", "Der Zweemann" and "Die Schaffenden") from 1918 - 1922. In 1919, he moved to Braunau am Inn, where he lived except for a stay in Rome in 1925/1926. 1919 - 1920 he created the woodcut cycle "Der verlorene Sohn". From 1920 expressionist still lifes, landscapes and portraits. In 1923 Wach was involved in the formation of the Innviertler Künstlergilde (IKG). He was friends with Egon Ranshofen-Wertheimer. From 1922 to 1940 he belonged to the artists' association MAERZ. Later he turned to religious themes, e.g. glass windows in the hospital church in Braunau. In 1937, seven of his paintings were confiscated from public collections in Germany and destroyed in the Nazi campaign "Degenerate Art". After the annexation he was banned from painting. A selection of his works is exhibited in the Herzogsburg District Museum in Braunau am Inn.
