    AN IVORY INLAID AMARANTH, TULIPWOOD, EBONY, MARQUETRY AND PARQUETRY CASKET ATTRIBUTED TO GEORG FRIEDRICH WAGNER (1751-1835), AUGSBURG, CIRCA 1793; THE DRAWING INSTRUMENTS BY LOUIS ESSER, ARAU, AFTER 1803 The domed, eared rectangular lid inlaid with a coat of arms flanked by an eagle and a griffin, surmounted by a count's coronet and above the family motto DUM SPIRO SPERO, the reverse fitted with a red velvet lining for various engraved brass instrumentents (comprising a protractor, rectangular protractor signed L. Esser à Arau, ebony ruler and a sector signed Langlois aux galleries du Louvres A Paris), the front sides and back inlaid with frolicking putti and centaurs, divided by canted angles inlaid with male and female herms, a spring activated drawer to one side, its interior inlaid with intricate marquetry and parquetry, centred by an oval depicting the three Fates and fitted with a block of four drawers to one side faced by another block inlaid with geometric patterns with a spring activated lid, flanked to either side by a further lid each inlaid to the reverse with geometric patterns, two enclosing a removable ivory compartment with concealed drawers, the drawer liner inlaid to the back with a simulated scrap of paper inscribed Wagner fecit A V 1793 12.5 cm. high x 31.5 cm. wide x 22 cm. deep
