Oil on canvas Austria, 1930s Franz Waldegg (1888-1966) - Austrian landscape and marine painter Signed lower left „Waldegg" Framed Overall dimensions: 91,5 x 109 cm Franz Waldegg is known for his atmospheric and dynamic landscape and marina paintings. Many of his marine paintings have been painted at the coast of Italy and especially in front of Capri. This gave the artist the opportunity to let the special southern light take over a dynamic role in his paintings just as he did in the painting at hand. The both quiet and powerful painting shows the sea that rolls in regular waves towards the coast where it breaks at the rocks. A few sea gulls wheel above the rocks. The painting has presumably been created in a bay as a coastline can be seen in the distance to the left. The sea mirrors the soft light of the sky and thus a harmonic composition in blue, white and rose tones is being created according to the rhythm of the waves. The painting is visually very appealing, yet the canvas is very thin in places and shows several patches to the back. Few touch ups as well as small holes and abrasions are identifiable. The frame is in very good condition. The painting is signed in the lower left "Waldegg". The overall dimensions measure 91.5 x 109 cm, the dimensions of the canvas is 79 x 97 cm. Franz Waldegg (1888-1966) Franz Waldegg was born inVienna and studied at the local academy between 1903 and 1907 under J. Hauer. He was also a member of the Segantini-Group around Giovanni Segantini.

The painting is generally in good condition, with a few minimal colour losses. The frame is in good, used condition. The painting is signed in the lower left "Fr. Waldegg".
