Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. Early in life Walter Schirra, Jr. developed an avid interest in aviation that led to distinguished service as a fighter pilot. However, his great fame was to be won in space. In his own words, Walter Schirra entered the space program for the same reason he became a test pilot, "to push out the frontiers." His dream began on April 9, 1959, when he was named one of America's first seven pioneers of space travel. During his distinguished career, he became the first astronaut to fly in three different types of spacecraft -- Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo. His bravery on such missions, like the October 3, 1962, space shot that circled the earth six times, made him a hero all across America. Three years later, he and his partner Thomas Stafford again astounded the world by orbiting the earth sixteen times and performing the first rendezvous in space. The two men guided their craft, Gemini 6, within one foot of Gemini 7; a miraculous feat, far out in the heavens. One of the most outstanding achievements of Walter Schirra's career was circling the earth a spectacular 163 times in Apollo 7. Mounted on an aluminium swivel tripod base. Publisher: Walter Knoll It shows slight marks of use and patina. Measurements: 84/40 x 81 cm. Tulip chair, which was designed by Preben Fabricius and Jörgen Kastholm. The Danish architect and designer Jørgen Kastholm began his training as a blacksmith, but soon left it to devote himself to furniture design. He attended the Copenhagen School of Interior Design, where he was taught by Finn Juhl. There he also met the cabinetmaker Preben Fabricius, who later became his partner. The two shared a common vision of furniture design, based on minimalism and quality and inspired by the creations of Charles Eames and Mies van der Rohe. Their quest was to achieve an ideal that, by its simplicity, would be timeless. In 1961 they set up a studio together in Gentofte, and four years later they presented their first designs at the Federicia furniture fair, where they attracted the attention of the German furniture manufacturer Alfred Kill. The latter offered them a lucrative contract that allowed them to work freely, so Kastholm and Fabricius moved to Stuttgart with their first designs to start production in Kill's factory. Shortly afterwards, they made the international breakthrough at the 1966 Cologne trade fair, where they showed a complete series of home and office furniture, developed from ten of their original designs. Their minimalist creations, at once attractive and comfortable, were generally steel and leather furniture. The two designers worked together between 1961 and 1968, a period of seven years in which they produced many designs that are now considered classics, such as the Tulip Chair FK 6725, the Grasshopper FK 87 and the Scimitar. During this period, their furniture also formed part of important international exhibitions, held in such prominent centres as the MOMA in New York (1967) and the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris (1967). In seinem Brief an Ingrid von Kruse schreibt er über seine Frau: "Als sie nach meiner Frau fragten, setzte ich an, um sie als Musiklehrerin und Hausfrau vorzustellen; wir kamen aber dann vom Thema ab, und so konnte ich wichtige Ergänzungen nicht anbringen. Auf der einen Seite ist es von Bedeutung, daß meine Frau lange Zeit sehr aktiv in der katholischen Frauenbildungsarbeit gewesen ist. (Sie war auch Präsidentin des Verbandes katholischer Frauen und Mütter und in dieser Eigenschaft im Präsidium des Zentralkomitees der deutschen Katholiken; sie hat sich aber ihre innere Unabhängigkeit in dieser Institution kämpferisch bewahrt.) ... Wir arbeiten eng miteinander zusammen; sie liest und kritisiert meine Manuskripte, ich die ihrigen. Nach unserem Gespräch fiel mir dieses mein Versäumnis ein, und ich meine, es bekennen zu sollen, damit sich kein falscher Eindruck festsetzt ..." (Wittenau, 28.
