        STUDY OF CLOUDS inscribed in pencil l.m. Clouds from Walton 9-45 to 10:15 July [?] 26th 1881 Richmond Pin...[?] inscribed verso g w whi[?]...3 / -2 / s / Preston [see note below] watercolour with pencil 12 x 16.5cm. / 4¾ x 6½in. It is thought that this picture was inspired by Richmond's close friend Samuel Palmer, who lived in Walton, Surrey. Richmond spent much of his time comforting his old friend and fellow 'Ancient' on his deathbed, as it attested to in Marianne Thornton's letter to Richmond of the 19th June 1881(Royal Academy Archives, GRI/3/576

        Circa 1800-1815 Both of the Traditional model sitting holding a jug, one wearing a blue coat, orange waistcoat and yellow breeches, with a pipe leaning against the chair, 22cm high, the other by John Walton, with a warty face, wearing a green coat, brown breeches and a striped waistcoat, 26cm high, marked WALTON impressed on a scroll on the base, both on octagonal bases.
