Henry Wambini Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1930 - d. 2003

Henry was born in a cave which the family sometimes used for shelter, on old Tickalara Station, near Turkey Creek and west of the Bungle Bungles. They were given blankets, tea, and tucker for catching dingoes and presenting the ears as proof.

As a young man, Henry became a very adept horseman, and worked on many of the East Kimberley pastoral leases. Paralysing his right arm in a truck accident some years ago, he successfully embraced the challenge of ochre painting with his left hand to paint his country in his simple, honest style. Henry spent his last years not far from his beloved Tickalara, at the tiny community, Frog Hollow.
