Petrus Wandrey Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1939 - d. 2012

Petrus Wandrey studied at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg and then at the Academy of Fine Arts. He worked in various media and created illustrations for record covers as well as newspapers and magazines. Inspired by Dali and Dadaism Wandrey's work initially showed a surrealist influence. Seeking his own formal language, he eventually found what he was looking for in the world of the early computer games. In 1978 Wandrey proclaimed his 'digitalism'. In subsequent years various groups of works, including of sculptures, assemblages and images, that combine art and technology emerged. Since the late 1970s Wandrey participated in exhibitions at home and abroad. In 1999 the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig honored the artist with a first retrospective. From mid June 2014 till the end of September a major retrospective titled 'Digitalism Art - die geniale Welt des Petrus Wandrey' is shown in the Spandau Citadel in Berlin.

                Est: -

(1939 Dresden - 2012 in Hamburg) Triptychon "Memento Marilyn Monroe". 100 cm x 100 cm bzw. 100 cm x 123,5 cm. Rahmen. Three serigraphs (screenprints) on canvas, 2003. Each signed, numbered 2/3, titled and dated on the reverse.

Mixed media sculpture bolted on panel Petrus Wandrey (1939-2012) - German artist Signed ‘Petrus Wandrey’, dated ‘1989’ and titled ‘Astronaut-I’ on the reverse of the panel Dimensions: 165 x 96 cm In aluminum frame: 168 x 99 cm Provenance: Private collection, Germany Since the end of the 1970s Wandrey has been investigating the possibilities of a digitalized imagery. The introduction of hardware into artistic depictions led him to make numerous experiments. In so doing, Wandrey researched the aesthetic appeal of electronic components such as circuit boards, laserdiscs, light-emitting diodes, microchips, cable bundles, heat sinks and electronic scrap. In his attempt to combine art and technology, Wandrey was inspired primarily by Atari computer games. As well, elements of Pop art, Surrealism and the Dada movement inspired his works Condition: The work shows slightly minor scratches, but is otherwise in very good condition. Petrus Wandrey (1939-2012) Petrus Wandrey studied at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg and then at the local Academy of Fine Arts. He worked in various media and created illustrations for record covers as well as newspapers and magazines. Inspired by Dalí and Dadaism, Wandrey’s work first showed surrealist influences. In the search of his own formal language, he eventually found what he was looking for in the world of the early computer games. In 1978 Wandrey coined the term of ‘digitalism’. The subsequent years were followed by various groups of works, including sculptures, assemblages and images, that combine art and technology. Since the late 1970s Wandrey participated in exhibitions at home and abroad. In 1999 the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig held a first retrospective of the artist. In June 2014 a major retrospective with the title ‘Digitalism Art – die geniale Welt des Petrus Wandrey‘ was opened in the Spandau Citadel in Berlin. The works radiate utopian beauty. They were published in a limited edition of only 12 pairs and made from stainless steel, cooling elements and specially manufactured printed circuits boards. Fascinated by the aesthetic appeal of electronic components, Wandrey uses the formal language of the digital era, creating compositions that illustrate our digital age par excellence. The two sculptures are in very good condition. The each measure 46 x 25 x 14 cm. They each carry a copyright blindstamp '© Petrus Wandrey 2008' and are punched with the date '2007', the title 'King Cool' and 'Queen Cool' and the edition '4/12'. Petrus Wandrey (1939-2012) Petrus Wandrey studied at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg and then at the Academy of Fine Arts. Since the late 70s Wandrey participated in exhibitions at home and abroad. In 1999 the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig honored the artist with a first retrospective. In June 2014 a major retrospective with the title 'Digitalism Art - die geniale Welt des Petrus Wandrey' is scheduled to open in the Spandau Citadel in Berlin.
