WANG Shi 王式, surname Wuni 无倪, active in the 17th century - famous painter in the style of song-master Depicted is a scene with nightly homecoming drunken poet in a fine garden landscape with trees and pavilions Each dressed in long, richly pleated garment, equipped with several attributes and accompanied by horses On the side with inscription and artist seals: Wang Shi Wuni Provenance: Private collection, Germany; former collector GU Ai (real name GU Ao); acquired on the Rudolph Lepkes Kunstauktionshaus, Berlin - 2. Juni 1931 – auction: Ostasiatische Kunst, Lot 153, thence family-owned. Image size: c. 464.5 x 28.5 cm Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 5,000 Euro GU Ao (1879 - ?) 顾鳌 GU Ao (1879 - ?) also reffered to his majority name Juliu 巨六 operated as an official in the legal business in the era of Guangxu and the Republic period. During the presidency of Yuan Shikai he was chairman of the comission and initialized a modern legislation as well as a parliamentary constitution. After the Northern March (1926- 1928) he set up on his own business as lawyer and mediator for antiques in Shanghai. Works by Wang Shi are found in Sichuan Museum. Condition: The work is in need of restoration and shows clear signs of age and wear. Fissures, loss of material, restored tears and traces of glue. The image size measures c. 464.5 x28.5 cm.
