Ward Artist Dates: 1874-1925 Country of Origin: England Title & Description: 'Hawk'This watercolor of a hawk is done with the study of the bird on a stump, a large body of water behind it. Son of Albert Ward, Vernon was encouraged to explore his talent from an early age and studied art at the Slade School. The subjects he treated include: landscapes, sporting, figure and portrait painting and the detailed study of birds. His work is particularly noted for its almost surreal use of light and his paintings often incorporate sparse untreated areas of canvas to remarkable effect. His work has been extensively reproduced in prints.
