Lynd Kendall Ward, 1905 to 1985, was an American artist and novelist, known for his series of wordless novels using wood engraving which have influenced the development of the graphic novel. Gods Man was the first of six woodcut novels by Ward and a major American best-seller. It tells the Faustian story of an artist who signs away his soul for a magic paintbrush.
