Biography

A native of Plainfield, New Jersey, Waring spent every summer of her childhood in Madison, Connecticut and subsequently lived there year round as an adult for twenty five years. Not surprisingly, these scenes became subjects of her plein air landscapes in oil, pastel and watercolor.

It was in the 1960’s at the Madison summer studio of National Academician Robert Brackman, a master painter and teacher at the Art Students League of New York, that Tina first trained at the early ages of fourteen through eighteen. She was the only child that Brackman ever accepted into his class, and he once proclaimed to the seasoned students, “This kid draws better that I do.”

At the same time she earned summer money by drawing portraits and selling watercolors and pastels at weekend fairs on the Connecticut greens as well as taking portrait commissions. Waring went on to college, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a magna cum laude in studio and art history at Briarcliff. She became well known for portraiture in pastel and oil; her portraits are in private collections across the country and in Europe.

Only in the past seven years have her plein air and impressionist landscapes been offered to the market place. Her one man shows at the Falk Gallery in Madison, Connecticut in the late 1990’s and 2000 were sell outs. In 2006 she had a one woman show at Rockwell Gallery in Wilton, Ct. She now paints landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes almost exclusively. She can often be seen painting from Mystic to New York. Trips to Maine, Vermont and Europe also can be seen represented in her work. Her work is currently included in the exhibit Lyme Light at the Lyme Art Association and in Summer in Connecticut at Susan Powell Fine Art.

In Waring’s own words, “Every painting is an actual place and time that I have been drawn to for one reason or another. In that the scene has this actual existence, it enables me to strive for a likeness much as I have with portraiture, but I want the painting to stand with integrity on its own as a painting as well.” In 2000 her work was accepted into The Biennale Internazionale Dell’ Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy.
