      This is a framed oil on canvas by Lamont Warner. The painting features a landscape with sand dunes or rolling hills and a small body of water in the background, very similar to other paintings done by Warner. It’s signed “Lamont A Warner” and dated “Aug 1957” in the lower right. Warner was a designer, teacher, and artist from New York. In 1900 he became a designer and head draftsman for Gustav Stickley, one of the most prominent furniture makers of the 20th century. Warner was hired shortly after Stickley began producing Mission-style furniture, and Warner was responsible for many of these new designs. He also taught at Teachers College of Columbia University. A collection of his letters and furniture designs can be found at the Winterthur Museum in Winterthur, Delaware. The painting is bright and in very good condition. The overall size is 28 3/8 x 24 1/4 inches and the sight size is 25 1/2 x 21 1/2 inches.

Warner/1941 oil on canvas NOTE LaMont Warner was a major designer for Gustav Stickley's firm from 1900-1906. After leaving the Stickley Workshops, Warner embarked on a lengthy career of teaching and painting. This work dates to the period when Warner was semi-retired and focusing his artistic efforts primarily on painting. This present lot was found in a home in Hobart, NY which is one town away from Stamford where Warner resided.
