Noni, Morinda citrifolia, is a fruit-bearing tree in the coffee family, Rubiaceae, commonly cultivated throughout the tropics. The works of renowned artist Niti Wattuya centres upon the theme of nature, filled with energy and emotions. Born in a home on the banks of the Chaopraya river in Chai Nat Province, Niti Wattuya’s love for art was nurtured from an early age. He honed his skills as an artist and decided to venture off on his own to explore the world. In 1971, he attracted the attention of members of the art circles after he displayed his works for the first time in the name of the Dhamma art group. From then on his works have been featured in numerous exhibitions both locally and abroad as a solo artist as well as part of a group in more than 35 exhibitions. Some of his artworks have been kept at the Pacific Asia Museum in the U.S.A. Aside from the visual arts he is also a writer of both prose and poetry. In 1985, he published his first book, a collection of essays he titled “Sparks In An Era”. This was followed in 1989 by a collection of poems written in free verse and a book of essays “The Oriental Soul”. He enjoys traveling around to many places in the world as he had done throughout his many years as an artist. Novelty, a solo show by Niti Wattuya was held at Numthong Art Space in 2021.

S$20000-25000 US$12120-15150 From the series entitled 'Dark Age', the following Lot presents Niti Wattuya's initial true love for water themes and particularly the riverscape. Showcasing Bangkok's Chao Phraya river- a significant source of inspiration to the artist- Man, Gold and River represents Niti's emotionally-charged aesthetic response to beauty, tinted with oriental spiritualism. Imbued by vaporous texture created through the use of scintillating gold and red tones, the painting intends to reflect on the straying condition of Thailand and on the absence of Truth; the result of a constant, ever-evolving society. The ethereal silhouettes evoke, metaphorically, vehicles for the darkened human condition, distanced from the majestic 'Mae-Nam', or Mother-River, source of virtue and life.
