Slight surface soiling, harmonious white shrinking cracks that do not disturb the theme with a resulting tiny spot of paint loss (approx. 2 mm), closed tear (approx. up to 4 cm) and isolated skilful retouching in the cloud middle right, small spots of paint loss (approx. 1 to 5 mm) lower right. DEUTSCH: Webb, James 1825 London - 1895 ebd. Aufbruch der Fischereiflotte. Öl auf Leinwand. U.l. sign. und 1887 dat. H. 86, B. 66 cm (Bildträger). Prunkrahmen. Der Londoner Maler James Webb hatte eine große Liebe für maritime Szenen. Er reiste durch ganz Europa und hielt die Küsten der besuchten Länder in seinen Gemälden fest. Fishing Boat in a Squall, 1854, watercolour, depicting a wooden fishing boat in a squall, a warship resting in the middle distance, signed and dated lower left, mount aperture 23.3 x 34.1 cm (9 1/8 x 13 1/2 ins), framed and glazed (46.5 x 57.5 cm) QTY: (1) NOTE: James Webb (1825-1895) was a marine and landscape painter who exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Society of British Artists, the New Watercolour Society, the Grosvenor Gallery and the British Institution between the years 1853 and 1888. A well-travelled artist, he painted coastal scenes not only in parts of England and Wales, but also in Holland, Belgium and France and parts of the Rhine. He also traveled around the Mediterranean, as far as Constantinople, the waterfront of which he also painted.
