      William James Webbe (British, fl.1853-1878) Study of Apples and Cobnuts; and Study of Apples, Grapes, and Strawberries both signed lower right with monogram "WJW" and dated 1864 oil on panel in burr walnut frames (a pair) h:13 w: 19 cm William James Webbe is included in Percy's Bate's book, The English Pre-Raphaelite Painters (four editions 1899-1910). However his small and beautiful oeuvre is little known; Webbe even spelt his name in exhibition catalogues in his lifetime in different ways - "Webb" and "Webbe" both appear. Webbe's beautiful "The White Owl" sold last year at Christie's for £589,250 in 2012.
