Wedeking, August Wilhelm: View of the commercial building of the portrait painter and photograher A.W. Wedeking

    Est: €350 - €500

View of the commercial building of the portrait painter and photographer A.W. Wedeking in Bremen. 1851/52. Salt print on thin paper. 27 x 21,5 cm. Annotated in pencil on the verso. After a longer peregrination August Wedeking, who was trained as a decorative and portrait painter in Munich, returned to his home city of Bremen in 1831 where he worked mainly as a portrait painter. Our photo shows his new 3-story commercial building, which he opened in 1849 (am Wall 74a), with the shop sign Photographisches Atelier von Wedeking and a smaller sign Porträtmaler u. Photograph next to the portal. - Some retouched spots, creases lower right corner and upper left and right corners, slight fading around edges, otherwise in good condition. - With: Negative print of a statue being photographed, possibly in Wedeking's studio. 1850s. Salt print. 29,5 x 18 cm. It is likely that Wedeking learned photography in Munich with Hoff or Hanfstaengl. - A few spots and light crease marks, slight soiling in lower edge, otherwise in good condition.
