    CARL WEINEDEL (AMERICAN, 1795-1845), ATTRIBUTED, MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF JAMES HENRY RANDOLPH, watercolor, finely delineated bust-length depiction of a rosy-cheek sitter wearing dark blue coat, butter yellow vest, and high white stock, no signature located. Housed in likely original gilt-metal pendant-style frame retaining fitted leather case. Circa 1820. 3" x 2 1/2" OA (frame). Catalogue Note: Caril Weinedel (1795-1845) was a miniaturist and portrait painter based in New York City primarily but is recorded in Richmond, Virginia as early as 1821. The sitter, James Henry Randolph, was a direct descendant of Thomas Jefferson.

Oval portrait miniature depicting lady with ringlets wearing coral bead necklace. In yellow gold oval frame engraved on reverse, "Oct. 12, 1813/May 8, 1814" and "March 7, 1814/May 17, 1815" and "Mrs. Ann Blount Pettigrew was born 16 Nov. 1795, & died 1 July 1830." Reverse of frame has crystal window revealing lock of hair. 3 1/4 in. x 2 1/4 in. In lot with unsigned copy of original miniature, in chased gold early Victorian frame also with crystal enclosing panel of woven hair. 3 1/4 in. x 2 5/8 in.
