Titled in plate, Dark Brahmas, Golden-Spangled Polish, White and Game Bantams, Creve Coeur, lower to the center. One signed in plate, lower right. Harrison Weir who painted birds in their natural surroundings. Published by Wm S Orr and Company London 1st edition, 1867. All framed.

    Book: Harrison Weir (1824-1906) - 18 Watercolors in Custom Binding No date. No publishing information. Circa 1853. Large folio, two book plates, including one of Lord Esme' L. Gordon with the motto "Bydand". Eighteen original water color paintings of fowl, 14 chickens, 2 ducks, 1 peacock, 1 turkey. Most signed Harrison Weir or H. Weir and dated 1853. Five paintings not signed. Each watercolor is matted in heavy stock with beveled window. Sight size of paintings is 7 3/4"x5 3/4". Bound in quarter leather and pebbled cloth with 5 raised bands on the spine. a.e.g. Gilt lettering and decoration, corners bumped, edges worn, top and bottom of spine torn w/some 1/4" loss. Moderate overall soiling. Watercolors are clean and bright with only minor foxing on some paintings. Many of the prints in Tegetemeier's Poultry of 1868 are included here in the original watercolor. An exceptional volume by the foremost Victorian painter of domestic fowl. From an anonymous Bath County Virginia estate.
