During a road trip through Southwest America German filmmaker Wim Wenders photographed with his medium format Makina Plaubel 6x7, searching for subjects and locations for his iconic movie ‘Paris, Texas’ (1984). The unique, saturated light of wild, deserted landscapes, empty shops, cafes, and roads captivated him. Great stillness is the essence of this series. The images do not document possible film locations, but rather sharpen Wender’s idea and conception of the American West as such. Auf der Suche nach Motiven und Drehorten für seinen Kult-Film ‘Paris, Texas’ (1984) reiste der deutsche Filmemacher Wim Wenders durch den Südwesten Amerikas und fotografierte mit seiner Plaubel Makina 6x7 Mittelformatkamera. Er war fasziniert von dem einzigartigen, gesättigten Licht wilder, verlassener Landschaften, leerer Geschäfte, Cafés und Straßen. Diese große Stille ist die Essenz der Serie. Die Bilder dokumentieren keine möglichen Drehorte, sondern schärften Wenders Idee und Vorstellung vom amerikanischen Westen als solchem.
