Der aus Westpreussen stammende Julius Wentscher, Schüler von Heinrich Gude in Berlin, widmete sich Zeit seines Lebens der Darstellung der Landschaft. Vor allem aber die Motive der Ostseeküste, die durch das nordische Licht in immer anderen Farben erscheint, faszinierten den Künstler, der vorliegendes Motiv mehrfach variierte.

"Abend auf der Düne" (Die Ostseeküste auf dem Darss). Öl auf Leinwand, doubliert. 92 x 142 cm. Unten rechts signiert und datiert "Julius Wentscher 1899". Der in Westpreussen gebürtige Julius Wentscher widmete sich Zeit seines Lebens der Darstellung der Landschaft. Insbesondere jedoch die Ostseeküste, die durch das nordische Licht in immer anderen Farben erscheint, faszinierte den Künstler, der Schüler von Heinrich Gude in Berlin war. Das vorliegende Gemälde war auf der Grossen Berliner Kunstausstellung 1899 vertreten und erhielt dort die "Kleine Goldene Medaille". Ausstellung: Grosse Berliner Kunstausstellung 1899 (rückseitig auf dem Keilrahmen mit entsprechenden Klebeetiketten).

Wentscher" Works by Julius Wentscher fetch up to 7,400 euros at international auctions Framed Overall Dimensions: 34 x 47 cm Provenance: From the estate of a Berlin collector This highly decorative oil painting is a signed work by the German landscape painter Julius Wentscher (1842-1918), who was a student at the Academy in Königsberg and under Hans Frederik Gude (1825-1903) in Berlin. His favourite subjects comprise the German Baltic coast of Samland, which is probably here depicted. The viewer stands on the wooded shore and overlooks the atmospheric blue waters beyond. The painting shows crazing with minimal colour losses. The frame is in good condition with traces of age and use. Lower right the image is signed with "J. Wentscher ". The dimensions are 34 x 47 cm (framed) 29 x and 41.5 cm (canvas).
