Jh., verso signiert "Wernekinck", im Boden eingelassene Metallplakette mit Prägemarke RvM, kleines Mädchen mit scheu gesenktem Blick, unter der hinten mit einer Schleife gebundenen Haube an der Stirn eine Haarlocke hervorquellend, Altersspuren und etwas beriebene Kanten, H ca. 13,2 cm. Künstlerinfo: deutscher Bildhauer (1872 Bromberg bis 1921 Berlin), studierte an der Berliner Akademie im Meisteratelier Reinhold Begas, seine Schwerpunkte liegen im Bereich der Bildnisbüsten und Tierfiguren, er schuf Porzellanentwürfe für Fimen wie KPM, Ilmenau, Heubach und Rosenthal. Gilded bronze, carved ivory, marble Berlin, Germany, circa 1910 Sigismund Wernekinck (1872-1921) - Berlin Art Nouveau artist Monogrammed 'SW' Verso foundry mark 'Aktien: Gesellschaft Gladenbeck Berlin' On octagonal black-green and white-veined marble base Height (with base): 35 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Berlin Very finely executed chryselephantine statuette from the famous foundry Gladenbeck in Berlin The present statuette by Sigismund Wernekinck (1872-1921) shows the antique-style representation of a young woman on a circular plinth with both arms raised above her head to hold a tray. Her light dress is buttoned along the upper arms, her elegant cape is held together with a button on the left shoulder. The robe of the chryselephantine figure is made of gilded bronze, the delicately carved head with topknot and the arms are made of ivory. The statuette is mounted on an octagonal black-green and white-veined marble base. The figure is in good condition. There are fine hairline cracks consistent with age to the head as well as the arms, which do not lessen the good overall impression. The right arm has been reattached. The well of the tray (probably made of ivory or glass) is missing, the top of the head shows a drilled hole, probably to attach the tray. The figure is monogrammed 'SW' on the front of the plinth and bears the foundry mark 'Aktien: Gesellschaft Gladenbeck Berlin' on the back of the plinth. The height including the base is 35 cm. According to the consignor the figure is illustrated in a Gladenbeck catalogue from the period. Sigismund Wernekinck (1872-1921) Sigismund Wernekinck studied at the Berlin Academy from 1891 to 1899 and was a master student of Reinhold Begas. Between 1903 and 1911 he exhibited at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition and in the Glaspalast in Munich. The artist created primarily portrait busts and figures, as well as animal sculptures and designs for porcelain figurines.
