    Carl Werntz (American, 1874-1944), two graphite drawings framed behind glass, the first of a "Devil Dancer" in highly decorated outfit, dated 1938, signed lower right, ss: 12 1/4" h. x 8 3/4" w.; along with portrait "Actor Dsokia Java", a facial portrait of person wearing eccentric hat, signed lower left, ss: 12 1/4" h. x 8 3/4" w.; neither examined out of frame, wear on both consistent with age, including minor toning, etc.

    Carl Newland Werntz (Illinois, 1874-1944) BOAT HOUSE, MOHONK MOUNTAIN HOUSE, NEW YORK oil on canvas, original frame, inscribed on verso H38" W30" Provenance: Property of a Southern gentleman. Other Notes: Located at the edge of the Catskill Mountains, the Mohonk Mountain House has been an all-season resort since it first opened in the late 19th century. The boat house and dock illustrated by Werntz are still in use today.
