Sallie White Art for Sale and Sold Prices

b. 1959 -

My Process - My approach to painting is informed by early lessons in loss and impermanence. One can either resist change or become an instigator; I choose the latter. I build and deconstruct in layers, scraping away the safe and conspicuous in an effort to extract what feels like "truth." My finished paintings are the survivors of many battles, resting on the bones of buried pretense.

I work with materials and tools that allow me to build and subtract, construct and demolish. I paint primarily with water-based paints and gesso. I often incorporate charcoal, graphite, oil crayons and ink, even if they present only as ghosts beneath the surface.

My work does not aim to be representational, but people often tell me that my paintings conjure certain feelings or memories for them. I believe that art allows us to connect in a profoundly personal way with others, illuminating universal truths and experiences.

My paintings are in private and corporate collections across the US. I welcome visits to my Greensboro studio, by appointment.
