              Jun. 01, 2024

Stephen White N.C. Artist Rare Gallery Showroom Table

              Est: $100 - $10,000

Late 20th Century; Original, 24.75” height by 16” width by 16” depth Stephen White (1939-) is a North Carolina artist who is known for mixed media works that have a distinct Byzantine. He creates his work by layering clear acrylic to achieve his desired texture, painting parts of his work, and then adhering sheets of gold leaf. Many of his stylized female figures come from his original muse, a woman named Marian. Four-legged, squared top table part of an original limited series. The legs and the top of the table are painted black. Gold leaf was applied on the edges of the tabletop and on the skirt, which continues into a V-shape onto the very beginning of the legs. This makes it seem that the gold leaf is dripping down the legs of the table. Inserted onto the tabletop and askew is a portrait of two female figures in White’s normal style of pale skin, a long nose, small, rounded eyes, and a tiny line for their mouths. Their hair and clothing are made of gold leaf. Raised parts of the gold leaf show texture in their hair, implying curly hair, and the polka dot design of their tops. The background is a teal color with swirls of white. The gold leaf also outlines this squared portrait. Signed and dated bottom middle “Stephen White 1997.” We encourage all interested parties to make an appointment for viewing and inspection of paintings. Please view the photos. Provenance: Estate collection of Mary And Arthur Watts Clark Sr. Durham N.C.

              Est: $100 - $10,000

Late 20th Century; Original, 8” height by 6” width Stephen White (1939-) is a North Carolina artist who is known for mixed media works that have a distinct Byzantine influence. He creates his work by layering clear acrylic to achieve his desired texture, painting parts of his work, and then adhering sheets of gold leaf. Many of his stylized female figures come from his original muse, a woman named Marian. This original work shows the heads of two female figures on a black background. Their faces are in White’s usual style of pale skin, a long nose, small, rounded eyes, and a tiny line for their mouths. They are both depicted wearing a headdress made from gold leaf. The wavy, raised lines of the gold leaf imply more detail for the headdresses and serve to disconnect the figures. Signed and dated bottom middle “Stephen White 1997.” We encourage all interested parties to make an appointment for viewing and inspection of paintings. Please view the photos. Stephen White N.C. Artist Pia Woman In Gold Headdress

              Est: $100 - $10,000

Late 20th Century; Original,12” height by 8” width Stephen White (1939-) is a North Carolina artist who is known for mixed media works that have a distinct Byzantine influence. He creates his work by layering clear acrylic to achieve his desired texture, painting parts of his work, and then adhering sheets of gold leaf. Many of his stylized female figures come from his original muse, a woman named Marian. This original work shows the head of a female figure on a grey background. Her face is in White’s usual style of pale skin, a long nose, small, rounded eyes, and a tiny line for a mouth. She is wearing an elaborate headdress made of gold leaf. Parts of this are raised due to the layering technique White uses which implies jewels and folds in the headdress. Stephen White N.C. Artist Byzantine Woman Dressed In Gold

              Est: $100 - $10,000

Late 20th Century; Original, 12” height by 7.75” width Stephen White (1939-) is a North Carolina artist who is known for mixed media works that have a distinct Byzantine influence. He creates his work by layering clear acrylic to achieve his desired texture, painting parts of his work, and then adhering sheets of gold leaf. Many of his stylized female figures come from his original muse, a woman named Marian. This original work shows the head of a female figure on a red background. Her entire dress and head covering are made of gold leaf. Her face is in White’s usual style of pale skin, a long nose, small, rounded eyes, and a tiny line for a mouth. Although her dress and head covering blend into one amorphous gold shape, White added more texture and layers to parts of the figure's head which makes it seem that she is wearing a crown-like headpiece.
