One of Anthony Wierix's larger works. The Virgin Mary is depicted with her arms crossed over her chest in a very devotional, intimate pose. Around her head a halo with rays that gradually go from light to dark and cover the entire background. Signed 'Anthony Wierix fecit'. Titled 'Respexit Humilitatem Ancille Sve' (He looked at the humility of hids made servant. 'This second state with the publishers address of Visscher replacing that of Hoeswinkel is titled by Marie Mauquoy-Hendrickx: La Vierge en adoration lors de la conception. Probably based on the verses of Luc.I.

From a very rare series of three prints: The adoration of the shepherds, The adoration of the magi and the circumcision. Hollstein Dutch 135-2(4). In excellent condition, very good dark strong impression on thin laid paper on the margins, image complete. Printers crease right above, not disturbing. Margins mounted on another paper.
