          This complete passion sequence in nine engravings contains a depiction of the bearing of the cross, the preparation of the cross, the nailing to the cross, the raising of the cross, the crucifixion, the infliction of the stab wound by Longinus, the deposition, the lamentation and the resurrection. Each scene contains numerous figures meticulously rendered, depicting the horror of the passion story. As such, a sequence like this served to guide a meditation on Christ's suffering by dwelling step by step on the injustice done to him. Each event is accompanied by a biblical subscript that prompts the devotee to further reflection. -- Rare as a complete set.
