    Bill Wiggins (American, 1917 - 2012). Frankenstein. The Monster From Hell, c1974. Mixed media collage, unsigned. Prototype artwork for the poster very close to the version used for the Quad and double bill posters for the last Hammer Horror Frankenstein movie. Slight differences in spacing can be seen between this original artwork and the posters. 47 x 44.5cm. Frame size 75 x 64.5cm. Provenance: The Collection of Alan Frank. Bill Wiggins was born in 1917 in Roswell New Mexico is is perhaps one of the less well-known poster artists but was responsible for some iconic movie poster artwork, including Hammer's Dracula in 1958. Alan Frank (1937-2003). was born in South Africa, grew up in Tanganyika Territory, which is now Tanzania and Kenya and came to England in the late 1950s to study medicine. His attempts to become a medic were short-lived, so he turned his hand to writing marketing copy. He wrote film reviews for countless publications, appeared on radio and TV, and published numerous books on cinema including, Monsters and Vampires, Horror Movies, and The Horror Film Handbook. Alan Frank worked as a film-extra on over seven-hundred films including, Corridors of Blood, Roger Corman’s Poe chiller, and The Masque of Red Death, and always enjoyed spending time with his Hammer film friends, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Frank was film critic for the Daily Star for over thirty years as well as the Morning Star, and interviewed virtually every actor and filmmaker who came to London to promote a film. Alan Frank did not just have an encyclopaedia-like knowledge of horror films - he knew about all films.
