    Nov. 03, 2015

    A VIOLIN MARINO CAPICCHIONI (b 1895; d 1977)

    Est: £25,000 - £35,000

MARINO CAPICCHIONI (b 1895; d 1977) A VIOLIN RIMINI 1961 labelled Marinus Capicchioni Fecit Arimini A.D. 1961 and branded M. Capicchioni - Rimini internally on the back length of back 14in., 35.6cm. Sold with the certificate of Mario Capicchioni, Rimini, dated 5th March 2007 Provenance In 1961 the organist Callisto Carlo Migani and his violinist friend Italo Roberti visited Capicchioni and saw this violin, which was almost complete. Roberti already owned a Capicchioni violin dated 1936 and Migani was keen to purchase the instrument. He promised to return when the instrument was finished, but a business engagement took him away from Rimini and when he returned some weeks later Capicchioni had sold the violin to a young musician. Migani spent many years trying to find the owner of the violin, and in the late 1970s he finally found the man. Sadly Migani died in 1978, but his sons later purchased the violin in his memory. This violin has been in the possession of the Migani family since the late 1980s. Caption for photo: Italo Roberti playing his 1936 violin by Marino Capicchioni, accompanied by Callisto Migani at the organ
