Provenance: Charles Stanhope, 3rd Earl of Harrington, 1753-1829 (coat-of-arms stamped on covers). FIRST EDITION of Sale's translation of the Koran, to which he added 'a long 'preliminary discourse,' a compendium of all that was known about the religion of Islam [at that time]' (ODNB).
