    Europe.- Architecture.- Wild (Charles) Foreign Cathedrals, 12 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates, each image approx. 380 x 280 mm (15 x 11 in), all trimmed to images as issued, mounted on later thin blue card within a ruled black ink border, printed caption slips mounted beneath, tissue guards, loose in original cloth portfolio, upper cover with original burgundy richly gilt label, spine and corners restored in 20th century red crushed morocco, some chipping to cloth, rubbed, [Abbey Travel 93], folio, [c.1826]. ⁂ Includes Rouen, Rheims, Chartres, Amiens and Cologne cathedrals. Wild was apprenticed to Thomas Malton, and concentrated on architectural subjects from the outset of his career. His son was the architect James William Wild.

    VARIOUS PROPERTIES THE ROYAL BANQUET AT WESTMINSTER HALL - THE CORONATION OF KING GEORGE IV; THE CORONATION OF KING GEORGE IV AT WESTMINSTER ABBEY THE ROYAL BANQUET AT WESTMINSTER HALL - THE CORONATION OF KING GEORGE IV; THE CORONATION OF KING GEORGE IV AT WESTMINSTER ABBEY measurements note each 13.5 by 19.5 cm., 5 1/4 by 7 3/4 in. two, both inscribed on original labels attached to the backboards, one: The Royal Banquet/ at Westminster Hall/.../ Coronation of King George 4th, the other: King George 4th/ at the Abbey/ Westminster Abbey/ at his Coronation both watercolour over pencil heightened with touches of bodycolour Quantity: 2 NOTE Charles Wild is best known for his architectural subjects, particularly of cathedrals and colleges although he also painted historical subjects and illustrated William Henry Pyne's Royal Residences, 1819 which included views of the interiors of Windsor Castle, St. James's Palace, Carlton House, Kensington Palace, Hampton Court, Buckingham House, and Frogmore. It is likely that the present watercolours are aquatinted in Sir George Nayler's 1837 publication of The Coronation of His most sacred Majesty King George the Fourth solemnized in the collegiate church of Saint Peter Westminster upon the nineteenth day of July MDCCCXXI. (published by Henry George Bohn, London, Victoria and Albert Museum).
