      Description: Emma Cheves Wilkins, (Savannah, 1870-1956), Portrait of a Lady, Oil on Canvas, signed upper left corner, portrait of a mature woman in a blue dress and floral shawl, in a giltwood frame. Frame size: 36 1/2 in. x 30 1/2 in. Emma Cheves Wilkins was a Savannah artist who focused on portraiture, still lifes and landscapes. After training at the Telfair Academy and at the Académie Colarossi in Paris, Wilkins made her living by teaching classes in her Savannah studio. Her pupils included Hattie Saussy, Myrtle Jones, and Augusta Oelschig, among others. She was renowned for her portraits which featured prominent members of Savannah society and important Southern figures. Wilkins’ work can be found in the permanent collections of Armstrong State University, the Morris Museum of Art, the Telfair Museum of Art and in private collections. Measurements: Height: by sight, 30 5/8 in. x Width: 24 5/8 in. Condition: Good condition, some wear to frame.
