        A flying ace pilot smiles and gives the thumbs up to the viewer to promote war bonds, saying "You Buy Em, We'll Fly Em" in this 1942 WWII poster by J. Walter Wilkinson and his son Walter G. Wilkinson. The artwork features a squadron of Douglas SBD Dauntless', which were used by the US Navy as scout planes and dive bombers. The seal at the bottom of the poster reads, "The More Bonds You Buy- The More Planes Will Fly." This poster is one in a series of six created by the award winning father-son team for the United States Treasury Department. This is the medium sized version of this poster. J. Walter Wilkinson (1892-1988) and his son Walter G. Wilkinson (1917-1971) created several posters for the United States Department of Treasury during the Second World War. J. Walter Wilkinson was an academic painter who studied in Italy and worked for advertising agencies in Philadelphia. He specialized in outdoors landscapes, but also created many commercial artworks for advertising campaigns including Ivory Soap, Pabst Beer, and Ballantine Ale. Below the main picture is an inset image of the Concord Minute Man statue. During World War II the Wilkinsons (J. Walter Wilkinson and his son, Walter G. Wilkinson) created a series of six war bond posters. Their unique signature, consisting of two kneeling stick figures with each figure holding a paint brush in the air and an "s" added to their last name, can be seen to the right of the bond holding hand.This collection is from Dr. David Orzeck by descent to his daughter Lida Orzeck and the entire collection is offered without reserve. Lida Orzeck came across more than 750 vintage war posters from World War I and World War II in her family’s home basement that her father, David Orzeck, a Brooklyn doctor, had meticulously collected. Discovered in 1970, the posters â€" of which few pristine prints remain with the exception of the National Archives and the Library of Congress â€" were in mint condition, neatly catalogued and folded in brown wrapping paper from grocery stores. Size: 28" H x 20" W Weight: <1 ounce Provenance: Dr. David Orzeck Condition: Poster has original fold marks and has not been exposed to sunlight, thus preserving the vibrant colors. Discovered in 1970, the posters â€" of which few pristine prints remain with the exception of the National Archives and the Library of Congress â€" were in mint condition, neatly catalogued and folded in brown wrapping paper from grocery stores. Size: 14" H x 10" W Weight: <1 ounce Provenance: Dr. David Orzeck Condition: Has not been exposed to sunlight, thus preserving the vibrant colors. Recently mounted on archival paper (reversible). Artist Biography: Walter G. Wilkinson was the son of J. Walter Wilkinson (1892-1988) and worked with his father a number of years. They had a unique signature of two figures with a paint brush over their shoulders and an s added to the Wilkinson name.During the Second World War, as a contribution to the war effort, they produced six paintings which were used to sell war bonds. These paintings were displayed at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington in 1985 and now rest in their archives.The Wilkinsons became well known in the Outdoor Advertising field and received top awards in 1950 and 1951.Walter G.
