Michael Wilkinson (Born 1954) American, Acrylic Sculpture

    Est: $400 - $600

Michael Wilkinson (Born 1954) American, Acrylic Sculpture. Depicting the face of a woman or girl with hair flowing to the side. Signed Wilkinson, dated 2002, numbered 114/911. Titled "Early Light". Minor spot near top side.  Size: 4 x 7 3/4 x 8 3/4 in.  #6794 Michael Wilkinson served in the Air Force as an illustrator. Posted in Japan, Wilkinson studied Japanese art and architecture. The harmony and elegance of the Japanese aesthetic made an impression on him and he integrated its principles into his thoughts. Wilkinson traveled to Europe in 1978 where he studied the great works of ancient Greeks and Michelangelo. When he finished his trip, he moved to New York City and worked on mastering the fundamentals of sculpture. It wasn't until 1985 in Carmel, California, when Wilkinson was introduced to the young medium of cast acrylic. This became the medium of choice because unlike the traditional, these had no beginning and no end, no back and no front. They can be viewed in many ways, seeing a different view from each side. Wilkinson constantly expanded his talent to sculpt "light" and has advanced the art form into unique patterns of optical illusion.

Michael Wilkinson (b.1954) Acrylic Sculpture. "Atlanteans III: Odyssey" 1991 Numbered (164/300). Comes with COA. Dimensions: 17.5 x 17 x 10.25 in. Michael Wilkinson’s art portrays all that is magnificent and beautiful in the human spirit, using the ideal to show us the possibilities in life and the potentialities within ourselves. Born in California and trained as an architect, Michael Wilkinson started his artistic career in New York in 1979. In 1985, Wilkinson transitioned from working uniquely in bronze to working in the young medium of cast acrylic. A forerunner in the medium, Wilkinson uses acrylic to create dreamlike worlds, communicating complex themes while still incorporating realism in his art. Unlike the traditional, these acrylic sculptures have no beginning and no end; no back and no front. They are viewed in a new way; studied and observed in their entirety from the inside and the outside. Working for nearly a decade in acrylic, Wilkinson constantly expands his talents to sculpt light in original ways. His work is very much in the same school as Frederick Hart.

    Michael Wilkinson "Turning Point" Acrylic

    Est: $2,000 - $4,000

Michael Wilkinson (b.1954) Acrylic Sculpture. "Turning Point" 1994 Signed and Numbered (52/500) on base. Comes with COA. Was sold retail for $22,000 This is likely due to the fact this is one Wilkinsons most impressive pieces, and, it is considered by many as one of his best works. This magnificent sculpture is comprised of a frosted internal relief which is seen through the crystal clear acrylic body, an incredibly difficult process to perform. Here it allows Wilkinson to depict the inner and outer beauty of the human figure highlighting the passion, love and emotion between the engaging couple. Dimensions: 19 x 13 x 13 in.

Michael Wilkinson "Study of Prometheans" Acrylic Sculpture

    Est: $2,000 - $3,000

Michael Wilkinson (20th Century) (American, b. 1949) "Study of Prometheans" Limited Edition Acrylic (Lucite) Sculpture. Original retail value - $12,000. Year produced - 1984. Numbered - # 67/500. Measures approx. - 26" high x 12" wide. Please see pictures for any blemishes to this piece.
