Reverse of the canvas reads “B.1811, Mrs. Abigail Sanborn Nudd, William Willard, Painter 1893”. In nice condition, has 2 spots with minor paint flaking and inpainting, no repairs or relining. 21 x 17 inches - Frame: 29 x 29 inches. Weight: 6.75 lbs.

Provenance: From the collection of Thomas Thompson of Boston (1797 - 1869) ; Sold in the famous Thompson Collection Sale of 1870 as lot no. 500, W. Willard, Sketch, Landscape (painted with the palette knife)cCatalogue entry copied and attached to back of lot, biography of Thompson provided as well. Note: Thompson had about two dozen examples, mostly portraits, of this rare Boson painter in his collection. Willard was a founder of the Massachusetts Academy of Fine Arts and a instructor at the School of Fine Arts in Boston.
