The latter worked as a pharmacist in Berlin and became the director of the Botanical Garden in Berlin in 1810. The present work, published after Willdenow's death, is one of his most splendid publications. This volume contains 216 hand colored copperplate engravings by Friedrich Guimpel. All engravings are signed in the plate 'F. Guimpel fec.' The book is bound in a plain brown contemporary half leather. Condition The work is in fair condition according to its age. This is one (of two) volumes containing the 216 colored copperplate engravings, which are in good condition. The paper is a little browned along the margins due to age and shows minor foxing. The colours are well preserved. The binding shows colour and material abrasions, the Book covers are loose and rubbed. The gold embossing on the spine is no longer visible.
