    Astrology.- Lilly (William) Christian Astrology modestly Treated of in Three Books, first edition, engraved portrait frontispiece by Marshall, woodcut diagrams and illustrations, light soiling and staining, closely shaved at head and foot, affecting several headlines and catchwords, 2Y2 burned at head with loss to several words of text, numerous ink inscriptions to endpapers, later calf, gilt, spine gilt with red morocco label, rebacked, retaining original backstrip, [Wing L2215], sm. 4to, by Tho. Brudenell for John Partridge, 1647. ⁂ First edition of Lilly's most important work, a lengthy study and compendium of astrology up to the time of writing. Provenance: John Devell, 1683; John John Son, 1690; Daniell Dale; Georgii Bagnold 1699; Richard Goodwin, 1713 (ink inscriptions).

The Northern Lyon, or Lyon of the North, and Chicken of the Eagle discovered who they are, of what nation. English, Latin, Saxon, Scotish and Welch prophecies concerning England in particular, and all Europe in generall. Passages upon the life and death of the late King Charles. Aenigmaticall types of the future state and condition of England for many years to come, first edition, woodcut initials, 19 full-page woodcut illustrations, 2 diagrams in text, 3 woodcuts repaired at margins, browning and occasional light soiling, D4 corner defective with loss to page number, 20th century calf, [Wing L2228], small 4to, for Humfrey Blunden, at the sign of the Castle in Corn-hill, 1651. ⁂ Famous collection of prophesies by Lilly (1602-1681), the astrologer and almanac publisher. Two of the woodcuts (likely executed by the author) brought particular notoriety as they appeared to predict both the Great Plague and the Great Fire of London, two events that would not occur until 14 and 15 years respectively after the publication of this work.
