      ALYN WILLIAMS PRMS (BRITISH 1865 - 1955) ARR Portrait miniature of a pretty young Lady circa 1890,  wearing a diaphanous white dress with a hint of roses at her corsage, her auburn hair upswept in a bun, hint of a sky background Watercolour on ivory Original gold coloured frame Oval, 75mm high Footnote: Although not signed on the front this bears all the characteristics of William's hand, particularly in the use of soft pastel colours for the background and scratched treatment of the sitter's hair. The Welsh born artist, Alyn Williams, was one of the most successful miniature painters of his generation, famous for his portraits of King Edward VII and other members of the Royal family. He was the founding President of the Royal Miniature Society, a post he held for almost 50 years.  This lot is subject to CITES

His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy, the New Watercolour Society and the Royal Society of Miniature Painters (of which he was the founding President), the Paris Salon and in the USA, 1890-1914. Two of his miniatures are in the Smithsonian Institution, Washington. His portraits of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra are in the Guildhall Gallery, London.  This lot is subject to CITES
